Conversion of former hostel on Spremberg marketplace, first competition: by invitation only, with five architects′ offices in total; second place The task was to convert the modular construction from the 1970s with the aim of integrating the building into the ensemble on the marketplace. Demolishing the building was out of the question, for structural reasons. The design references the building structure typical of the marketplace. Modern ′add-ons′ take up the historical outlines of the buildings and structure the façade. The shape of the building and roof embody a contemporary architectural understanding. The small square by the town hall is enhanced by a café. |
